La Carreta Nagua
the Covered Cart
Death omens

AI illustration · imagined scene, not an evidence photograph Guerrero records La Carreta Nagua, "The Covered Cart", as an omen of misfortune that appears mysteriously in the silent hours of the night. It makes a terrific rumbling, but no oxen are seen to draw it, and when followed it usually disappears among the trees. It was supposed to appear before some great calamity or the death of a notable person, and, Guerrero adds, only at long intervals.
