Fisher's Ghost
The ghost upon the rail
Told, never investigated

AI illustration · imagined scene, not an evidence photograph Frederick Fisher, a settler at Campbelltown, vanished in June 1826, and the story goes that months later a farmer, John Farley, saw his ghost sitting on the rail of a bridge, pointing toward a paddock down the creek, before it faded away. Fisher's body was found in a shallow grave on the land of George Worrall, who was tried and hanged in February 1827. The murder is fully recorded in the colonial files, but the State Archives of New South Wales say nothing of the ghost appears in them, since superstitious testimony was not accepted in court.
